The existing straight and contra angle hand pieces underwent expert assessment and were analyzed by the dental profession. Further, the requirements for the instruments were defined and the demands placed on them examined. The resulting findings were used to develop straight and contra angle hand pieces that satisfied these criteria, ergonomics being of paramount importance.
